Anw Im here to inform you all about an upcoming health related activity! :D

Amazing Race @ ECP

Planned by: Health Ambassadors from 5B 5K 5N 5Q
Where: ECP
When: 8 June 09 (Second Monday of June Hols)
Time: 10am-1pm
Who: 5B 5K 5N 5Q
Attire: Casual. (prefably no skirt 'cause it may hinder the completion of some tasks and cycling too)

Each class will be grouped into teams of 7 or 8.
Each group will be accompanied by a facilitator who is their class health ambassador or chairpersons
(Groupings will be out and posted here on 1/6/09)
There will be tasks to be completed at each stations (quite easy and fun hahah)
The game will take only take about 2h* (estimated time)

The catch is that you will be cycling instead of walking in ECP! :D
Top 4 teams will receive mystery prizes (according to the order they reach the ending point)

Please reach punctually at 10am outside Kite Runner bicycle rental shop.
You may want to meet up with your class health ambassadors because they know where the place is.
Please also bring along at least $10 to pay for bicycle rental (approx. $4-$6/pax) and also lunch if you are eating there.

FAQs:
Q: What if someone is injured?
A: We have first aid club members! They will bring along first aid kits and any injured individual will be accompanied back to the Kite Runner with a friend to take a rest or for any treatment if neccessary

Q: Idk how to cycle! How!?!?!?!?!
A: Dont worry! There is double-bike where two ppl can ride together. Those who dont know how to cycle can pair up with a friend who knows how to cycle and ride it! dont be afraid and enjoy yourself haha.

Email from Ms Tan on PI:

1) PI Draft 1 due latest 9 April, Thurs night.

Both soft copies and hard copies accepted, though soft copies preferred, since i tend to give many comments and it is just tidier for me to type. Do not be too preoccupied with the number of drafts you have gone through, focus more on the quality of your latest draft. Somebody's draft 2 could be far more satisfactory than another's draft 4. Those who finish your drafts earlier, do email me soonest so you get feedback more quickly.

2) What should be inside the PI:

Based on the PIs I have reviewed, I see that you guys are still rather confused about what the questions require. Let me clarify this again.

Start off by looking at your qn paper again to clarify all the sections to be addressed in the PI. I would highly recommend making copies of your qn paper or scanning it into your comp. Or one of you can do the scanning, and share the file with the rest.

Under choice of topic, you must include 1) a past example of conservation/emergency; 2) lessons learnt from this past example; 3) strategies derived from this past example to be applied to a stated new example of conservation/emergency.

Note that the "lessons learnt" that you talk about in your PI MUST be learning points that lead to specific strategies. Do not state "lessons" such as - "Human lives are very important so we must protect them"; "cultures must be conserved or they will be lost forever". Such "lessons" do not teach you specific strategies that you can apply to a new project of your choice.

The number of lessons learnt and strategies can vary from one to a few, depending on how profound they are. You might pick out just one very profound and unique learning point/strategy, or you might pick out a few (possibly more mundane) learning points/strategies that together, make up a comprehensive action plan. Whether the former or latter would score more points, depends entirely on how you analyse and present your ideas.

Feasibility and manageability MUST apply to your proposed project (i.e. the strategy/strategies you propose for the particular new conservation/emergency).

If you are still unsure about what I mean, feel free to ask me by any possible means. Also do take a look at the past PIs i have printed for you to gauge where u stand.

3) Choice of topic:

Generally, the less mundane and cliched an example you choose, the easier it would be to come up with a strong proposal. Try your best to stay away from common topics such as SARS, Bird Flu, Titanic, unless you are confident of being able to analyse these overworked examples from a truly unique perspective.

Also, be as specific as you can about your choice of topic. Do not simply state that you want to conserve "japanese culture", for instance. What aspect of the culture do you want to conserve - dance, art, language, customs? Amongst what community of people do you want to conserve the culture? Only when you are specific right from the start, can you effectively analyse your reasons for choice of topic, feasibility, manageability and accessibility of info. Otherwise, your PI will simply end up being a mish-mash of over-generalised statements.

4) Filing issues:

The past materials distributed to you (e.g. brainstorming tips, strategies for A & E, sample PIs, EOMs and GPPs) should already be filed so you can refer to them easily.

Start a working file for all your draft submissions, printed resources etc. You MUST file copies of your drafts on which I have given comments to document your continued revisions.
